Cycle rail fund schemes 2015 to 2016

Seaford, Bishopstone and Newhaven Town are amongst the towns allocated a share of £14.5 million to improve cycle facilities at hundreds of railways stations. Our local rail stations will benefit from additional covered cycle storage and CCTV. A summary of our local station improvements is shown below, with the full listing on the gov.uk website available HERE.

  • To provide covered cycle space at Glynde (10 spaces) and Bishopstone (10 spaces). These will include CCTV, lighting and signage.   £20k
  • To provide a cycle hub at Newhaven Town with a secure key card access for 50 cycle spaces, cycle hire, cycle maintenance. The bespoke construction will also include CCTV which will be monitored live, LED lighting and way finding signage.   £150k
  • To provide an enclosure at Seaford station with 20 additional spaces a maintenance frame and pump. This will include CCTV, lighting and signage.    £50k

Cycle Seahaven have asked to be informed of the construction schedule and we’ll let you know when we have more information.

Thanks to club member Kate Bowen for proposing cycle storage at Bishopstone as a response to the recent parking restrictions around the station. When implemented, local rail users will be able to securely park their bikes, rather than struggle with restricted parking.
