Thanks to everyone who attended our 3rd AGM on 11th Feb 2012. We had 40 people to keep amused and fed whilst attending to club matters, and it all seemed to go rather well. Extended discount for club members at Mr Cycles

Rod & Maria at your local independent bike shop, Mr Cycles, are pleased to
announce that the exclusive discount offered to members of Cycle Seahaven has
now been increased. From now on members will receive a minimum of 10% discount
at Mr Cycles when paying in full. This covers servicing, repairs, clothing,
accessories and bikes, but does not apply to items purchased under Cycle to
Work schemes, or Finance. The 10% discount can only be given on production of a
current club membership card.

New Committee for 2012

At our Annual general meeting on Saturday 11th Feb the following changes were made to the CycleSeahaven committee:

Chair – Jamie Lynch, replacing Andy Lock

Rides & Events – Dave Geering, replacing Clive Aberdour

Web and Comms – Eliza Ratusniak & Rod Lambert , replacing Ian Cairns

Andy Lock and Ian Cairns remain on the commitee, with Andy accepting a role to continue with cycle campaigning

Clive Aberdour and John Reeve have stood down to concentrate on other interests.

Ditchling to Seaford Charity Ride. Saturday 17th March 2012

Clint and Lorna Allen are organising a 20 mile fun ride from Ditchling Beacon carpark to The Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford. £20-a-head entry fee to be received by Feb 25th, proceeds to Cystic Fibrosis. There’ll be prizes for the top three quickest teams. Meet at 9:30 for a timed staggered start at 5min intervals.

Ouse Valley Cycle Network – bid for funds

Ouse Valley Cycle Network (OVCN) have submitted a request to East Sussex County Council (ESCC) to be included in the bid for Local Sustainable Transport Funds (LSTF).

OVCN aim to set up a shared walking and cycling route from Lewes to Newhaven. This will mainly follow the banks of the Ouse – a flat and picturesque route that will connect our County Town to our International Seaport. The lack of a safe route along the C7 forces most people into cars. OVCN see this new route as a major step forward for recreation (picnics, family rides, sightseeing) and utility (work, shops, doctors, schools) cycling and walking.

ESCC have two bids in place, which OVCN consider to be a perfect fit:

East Sussex Coastal Towns – Sustainable access, delivering growth and cutting carbon
Accessing the South Downs in East Sussex

We will let you know if our bid is successful.

Charity rides for Stone Busters

Details of a local ride that may interest our members.

This is nothing to do with Cycle Seahaven, but we’re happy to keep members informed of similar local cycling events.

Charity

One of Eastbourne D.G.H. Consultant Urological Surgeons is organising two charity bike rides. The charity is the MediTech Trust and the initiative is under the title of Stonebusters: “I take 4 UK trainees to Sri Lanka and we treat 30 plus patients with [kidney] stone disease, training our guys and the local surgeons. I aim to raise the money to buy them some kit so they can continue where we leave off.”

Sunday 15 January – cross-country

Cross country mountain bike. Starting at 10 30am from Wannock Place Jevington Road, Wannock BN26 5NT going via the south downs way to Brighton then back by train. I will organise for some bikes to come back in a horse trailer. Some people will be going on horseback. We will come back by train from near the University.

Sunday 5th February family road biking

We will leave from the front of the DGH at 10.30am.

Ride to Cooden and back with some families riding just part of the way.

(Cooden Beach station is on the train line back to Hampden Park and Eastbourne)

Details:

· Please let me know if you can make it
· Please consider coming on one of the events with a team
· Either cycle the whole route or part of it as long as you have fun and raise some money.
· All outings will have a stop off at a pub.
· I enclose sponsorship forms DOWNLOAD HERE
· I suggest get sponsorship per mile if you are not sure you will manage the whole way.
· Please get a gang of people – I will need to have a rough idea of numbers although I realise the weather may clobber all but the most hardened.
· Please tell all participants to bring a mobile phone.
