How fast can you go without going anywhere?
Sussex’s new premier bicycle dealer,Giant Shoreham,are bringing indoor bike racing to Shoreham. Don’t worry though,you won’t have to move the furniture or scrub skidmarks off the lino. This is head-to-head virtual reality racing for everybody to watch on Ropetackle’s giant cinema screen.
Giant Shoreham’s Rob Pelham,East Sussex Cycling Association 100-mile champion,is raring to go. “It’s going to be a hell of a night. We’ve got room for 32 entrants to compete with each other in a big knockout tournament,with all the action taking place on the big screen. Each race is over a course that should only take a minute or so to complete,so it should be a hoot.”
There has been huge interest in the event already,which is great news for Ropetackle,who will receive all proceeds from the big one-off night in aid of the Save Ropetackle campaign. “The atmosphere at events like this is always pretty raucous,” explained Rob. “People bring their friends and family along,they all want to shout their support,and the bar will be open to help loosen their vocal chords.”
Sussex cycling legend Sean Yates will be among those lining up when he returns from managing the Sky professional team at the year’s first big international race,Australia’s Tour Down Under. The Sky roster now includes newly-crowned Sports Personality of the Year Mark Cavendish as well as multiple-Olympic medallist Bradley Wiggins. Sean is bringing down a Sky team jersey signed by the squad to auction for the Save Ropetackle movement.
There will be prizes for all competitors with a virtual-reality trainer worth over £500 going to the overall winner. As well as the full bar,Ropetackle’s Thunkshop Café will be delivering a selection of delicious home-made hot pies (not to be thrown at competitors).
Tickets are priced at £8 for competitors and spectators alike (£4 for Under-16s),and they’re selling fast. They’re available direct from Ropetackle or from the Giant Shoreham shop next door.
