Ride Leaders

Cycle Seahaven is very fortunate to have a large number of ride leaders…

Clive AberdourRide Leader
Clive - Rides Co-ordinatorI’ve been a ride leader for Cycle Seahaven since the club was formed and have led many road rides. I try to run club rides every Saturday and Sunday morning, other commitments permitting. Nevertheless,I manage to organise rides for most weekends during the year.

I’m happy organising rides for any level of cycling and tend to concentrate on the most popular levels which are currently levels 3 and 4.

My prime concern when planning a ride is ‘safety’. Therefore,I avoid busy roads except to cross them and,in the main, keep to quiet country roads. Also,I like to include a café stop on my rides so people have a chance for a rest and a chat. I usually plot routes on Google Maps so members can take a look at the route beforehand using Google Streetview.
Jean-Luc DelauveRide Leader
Jean-LucI took up cycling 6 years ago to improve my fitness and save on work commuting cost.

A couple of years ago,I was introduced to Friston Forest and trail riding by Lurch. I instantly loved it and found MTB a good way of relaxing as well as having fun while exercising! My favourite rides are night rides where the forest take a mysterious look only broken by our high power lights!

I became a ride leader in spring 2011 and I hope my rides bring a bit of fun mixed with a little adrenaline rush and good exercise. I am bilingual being born in Paris,so any French riders are welcomed on my rides:-)
Nick Smart-JonesRide Leader
NickI have been on a bike since a child but recently got back into cycling as a way to keep fit, regularly covering 30 – 60 mile road rides at a good pace. I am always looking to improve on my time and like to find good routes.

I have competed in a number of Sportives and the London Triathlon, which all have been a challenge but a huge amount of fun. Typically, the sort of rides I tend to lead are level 4 –5 road rides ranging from 30 miles up.
Jamie LynchRide Leader
JamieBorn in Newhaven,I have been cycling around East Sussex all my life and have a great love and passion for the Downs and forests that surround us. I have ridden in Scotland,Wales and a lot of the UK in various charity rides or races for Mr Cycles Enduro Team, but can`t wait to get back on the Downs as soon as I am home again. We are so lucky in this area for the quality and wide variety of riding we have on our doorstep.

Wanting a change I have recently qualified and set up as a Mountain Bike Trail Guide and intend to lead MTB tours over the South East the Downs,Friston Forest and beyond. This I hope will carry through into my Club rides too,so I can pass on my newfound skills to those that want to improve there riding and further their enjoyment at all levels.

GusFrom forest trails to open Downs. Count me in.

Pootling along the coast with the kids or racing down the black runs in the French Alps. Count me in.

Fixing bikes for free at a Cycle Seahaven event or helping new riders learn new skills. Count me in.

Beer in the pub after? OK,If you insist. Count me in!

Photo Coming Soon" Riding is my heroin !. Quite simply, whatever happens in my life I keep on getting back in the saddle for relief, respite and rejuvenation. Be that as an opiate for the 1001 causes of angst,as a vent of frustration,to rekindle my sense of self following periods of being broken,or simply just to blow the worries of the world away. Of course,to have fun too !
I am happiest when my mind goes blank with the missile-lock concentration that comes when you lose yourself along the tightrope of instinct and impulse. But it's the transcendental experience of riding itself that is the big drug. Not the pain,Not the sating of the inner gear junkie,Nope, the bike is merely the essential conduit - the means of delivery, just like the addict's syringe.
So,I am an addict. Most certainly I am. I suffer from withdrawal symptoms,I have mood swings, uncontrollable cravings and crippling lows.
But when the cleat snaps in to the pedal and the whirr of the gears ooze into my ears,I am complete,I am happy.
I could never conceive a life without the bike and there are much worse things to be addicted to ".
