South East Coast MTB Rescheduled

Statement from British Heart Foundation on 29th July

We are very sorry to announce that we’ve taken the extremely difficult decision to postpone tomorrow’s South East Coast MTB.

This decision has been made in consultation with our external expert Off-Road route coordinator who has designed and planned the route and has detailed knowledge of the local area and conditions.

The weather forecast has severely worsened overnight to heavy rain and strong winds. The timing and amount of rainfall forecast is likely to make riding on our intended terrain incredibly treacherous. Whilst under normal circumstances rain would not pose such a risk, the recent dry and warm weather has meant the ground is so dry and hard that rainfall of this nature is likely to make it extremely slippery. Taking this as well as forecasted wind speeds into account would mean that proceeding with the event would be putting your safety at risk, which we are not prepared to do.

We would like to apologise for the disappointment caused by this, as well as for the timing of this message. We monitor forecasts on an hourly basis throughout the build up to an event, but could not foresee these changes to the forecast happening in order to make a decision any earlier.

We are currently in the process of contacting all participants, but would be grateful if you could share this post with anyone you know due to participate.

A further email will be sent out next week with details of the new date which we really hope you will be able to attend. We appreciate how much work has gone into your training and fundraising to help us fund life-saving research. We will also help with registration and fundraising queries you may have. Please also keep an eye on our website and event Facebook page for more information. If you have any further questions, please email us or call 0300 330 3322.
