Future Sunday morning touring rides will start and finish at the entrance to the Seven Sisters Country Park car park in Friston Forest, ie the same place as the Tuesday morning touring rides.
This is because the route between the Cuckmere Inn car park and Chyngton Lane, which we use on the return trip to Seaford, is too muddy for road cyclists who have to walk this stretch of the route. The fields aren’t too bad but the path leading to Chyngton Lane is impassable without getting shoes and clothing splattered in mud. Also, parts of path from the pub car park to the field are very muddy.
The alternative of cycling up the A259 hill from the Cuckmere Inn to Seaford is, in my opinion, too dangerous at midday on a Sunday when the road is very busy.
Starting the ride at the entrance to the car park in Friston Forest gives cyclists the option of taking their bike in a car to the start. It’s a pay & display car park, the cost being £2.50 for up to 2 hrs and £3.50 for over 2 hrs. All our touring rides are over two hours in duration.
If you use the car park more than eight times a year then it’s cheaper to get a season ticket which is £27. You can buy one through the Foresty Commision website: http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pass.
The start time for Sunday morning touring rides will remain at 9.00 am until the Spring.
